Day Four: Identify Your Audience
A small explanation is needed for this post. I am trying to combine two WordPress programs into my daily post writing. The first is the “The Daily Post” the second is “Learning the Fundamentals”. This post is my first attempt.Today’s Learning the Fundamentals assignment is to write a post to identify my audience. Since I’m not sure who I want my audience to be I am going to start with politics and the November election (for now). Because my WordPress site is self-hosted my posts don’t show up on the WordPress reader, but if I include the Daily Post prompts in my posts I may acquire some readers and comments.
What is foremost on my mind today is the upcoming election. I am thoroughly disgusted with the direction this country (United States of America) is going. I know I don’t want to have to listen to Hillary’s screechy voice for the next four to eight years, I can’t stand the woman. I find her very offensive. Hillary and her protégé Barack Obama don’t know what the word truth means. Nothing but lies and deception come from their lips. I don’t want to see Hillary win the election just because she would be the first female president.
At the same time, I’m not fond of Donald Trump. I don’t trust him either. I like the fact that he isn’t a career politician but I believe strongly that he is a member of the Illuminati, the creators of the New World Order. I don’t trust those in society that are in a position of power because of their wealth. Are there no longer members of society that are not influenced by power or wealth that are qualified to hold the office of President of the United States? Are there not members of society that desire honesty and integrity in our elected officials? Is honesty such an elusive quality in our time that society is fooled by the grand illusion that is produced by members of our government? I for one am looking for truth and honesty from our elected officials. What about you?
I’m a little behind on my daily post writing. There is a disadvantage to writing after the fact; I don’ get as many readers.
The clock is the first thing I look at when I wake up in the middle of the night. It usually says 4:00 AM or very close to that time. I get up for a few minutes to take care of business and to feed the cat so she won’t wake me before I want to get up in the morning. I like to sleep late sometimes as late as 10:00 AM.
I remember a time when the clock was not my friend. It was after my heart surgery. Time moved very slowly then. Another period of time when the hands of the clock moved very slowly was in my younger years during high school, especially during history class. Now I am much older, the hands of the clock move quickly, sometimes more quickly than I would like.
In reality the speed of the hands of the clock moving around the dial is no different now than it was then. I is my perception of time that has changed. What is the saying? “time flies when you’re having fun”.
Poetry. When I was in grade school I remember being taught about poetry. I was even required to write a poem. I don’t remember what poem I wrote and I don’t remember what it may have been about. As I read some of the posts in Daily Post Prompts I find many of the responses are poetry. Some I like some I don’t. I also noticed the length of some of the poems. I decided to do an internet search about how to write a poem and discovered there are too many rules and that poetry writing could get quite difficult. One of the poetry styles I read about is called “Cinquain” according to wikHow. I have written in previous post that I’m not very creative but I decided to try my hand at writing a poem. I am writing about my garden because it has slowly been providing me with produce, tomatoes, for a month or more.
planting, growing, filling
providing nourishment and health
I realize this is a very lame poem, but I did try to follow the poetry rules.
If you’re like me when you think of the word storm you think of something to do with the weather like a thunder-storm. There are several definitions for the word storm. One of my favorite uses of the word storm would be “I was so angry I stormed out of the room to cool off.”.
In a previous post titled “clouds” I described what kind of clouds I liked; “The clouds I like the best are the big black ones that bring rain.” So it is with storm. The kind of storm I like best is the kind that brings big black clouds with lots of thunder and lightning and of course heavy rain. In the area where I live rain is always a welcome distraction. Anything that will bring the temperature down a few degrees is blessing.
There have been other storms in my life. When I was a teenager, living at home, the storms were frequent and sometimes very demoralizing. There was always much anger and fear in the house, it was a place I didn’t want to be. I learned several lessons about life and people in that house. Life is not fair and people are usually looking out for themselves not considering the damage they may be causing others.
The Daily Post Prompt – Storm
My life is a journey that started many years ago. There have been many milestones along the way, some positive and many negative. Between the milestones there were times of peace and contentment. I won’t describe the many milestones of my life. I will only say I like the place I am now, on my life’s journey, the best.
Are you a guest in your own home? If you’re a cat person and your cat likes you then you’re a guest. My cats name is Star; she has allowed me to live with her for just over eight years. We’ve become great friends yet she always lets me know who’s in charge. Star has her daily routine and she’s not shy about reminding me if I forget to do something for her on time. It’s all worth it though when she comes and sits on my lap and asks me to pet her. Purr . . .
What a great word, cowardice. It makes me think of how afraid I am to truly express myself in my blog posts. I tell bits and pieces of my story, but no one will ever know the entire truth. There is one exception to my statement about people not knowing my story. God knows my story; He knows who I truly am.
I’m always a day or two behind on my daily post prompts. I’ll try to rectify that problem.
The area of the country that I live in is considered desert. Although it doesn’t look like the typical desert community it defiantly is. Saint George UT is located in the norther arm of the Mojave desert. Going southwest from Saint George there is Mesquite NV and Las Vegas NV. No one will dispute that Las Vegas is a desert town and chances are that it wouldn’t exist at all if not for the construction of Hoover Dam.
Temperatures in Saint George can sometimes get upwards of 110° F. in the summer, but not often. The one redeeming factor about the high temperature is that it is usually dry heat, not much humidity. Summer afternoons are generally accompanied by a westerly wind that can be quite strong. If your misfortune takes you outside during the late afternoon it can feel like you are walking into a blast furnace.
Fortunately, today there is air conditioning to relieve the heat. In the pioneer days and through the 60’s and 70’s many of the residents of Saint George maintained homes in Pine Valley. The residents would live in Pine Valley in the summer and return to Saint George during the winter months. Pine Valley is a mountainous area about 30 to 40 miles north of Saint George.
The beautiful thing about living in Saint George is the winters are very mild. The temperature rarely gets to down to 32° F. For an example I didn’t wear a winter coat one time this past winter. There were a few days that a sweater was required but not many. Another beautiful thing about living in Saint George is the scenery. There are the red cliffs just to the northwest of town and Zions National Park is only about 40 minutes away.
