Writing a post about Scandal. Today I’m going to break from writing a post just to incorporate the daily prompt into my writing. I haven’t written anything about TV shows or movies for a long time.
I’m a Netflix addict.
I have watched many movies and TV series over the years that I have been a Netflix member. During the past year or so one of the TV series I’ve been watching is “Scandal”. In the simplest of terms, the series scandal is about a woman, Olivia Pope. Olivia is a fixer, she and her team clean up political messes, in and around Washington DC, by any means necessary; she is also the president’s mistress. The series details the events of the personal relationships of Olivia Pope, President Fitzgerald Grant, and his wife Mellie Grant.
I was originally drawn into the series and would sometimes watch several episodes a day. The storyline was interesting and challenging. I watched the first four seasons with dwindling interest as each season progressed. When Netflix offered season five I thought I would give the show another chance, maybe there would be something new to peak my interest. I was disappointed, I watched the first two episodes with dislike and finally lost interest in the series entirely during episode three. The season was just another layer of the repeated layers of the same plot. Olivia or Millie. Who will the president choose?
I have watched several TV series on Netflix and decided once they get to the fourth or fifth season the writers have a difficult time keeping the story together. As I watch, I get the feeling the only reason for the next episode is, not to promote the story-line but, to keep the revenue coming in from the advertisers. I feel the writers are struggling to keep the plot moving, or finding a new way to tell the same story over and over again.
Not all TV series die for me of the same death. There are some new episode seasons that I look forward to with eagerness, but I am frequently disappointed.
When you get into trouble there’s only one person to call, Olivia Pope. Olivia is a professional ‘fixer’ who makes problems go away before anyone even knows they exist. For the moneyed, the powerful and even the President, Olivia is a legend in her field. Her spectacular success is mostly due to her unbreakable rule of always trust your gut. No matter how careful you are, when you do damage control for a living, you’re bound to cause some damage to your own life. She and her crew eat, sleep, live and breathe crisis. Each week, as the team races against the clock to defuse intriguing new problems before they become full-blown disasters, they also have to deal with their own personal issues. They may call themselves ‘gladiators in suits’, but little by little, Olivia and her crew begin to reveal the chinks in their armor. Written by Anonymous
